R.E.P.O. includes a system of enhancements that allow players to purchase robotic upgrades. These can improve speed, strength, and resistance—but only if you complete enough missions to afford them. The currency is earned through risk, and losing cargo means starting over with nothing. Choices must be made about what to upgrade: better arms for lifting or armor for defense? A quieter movement module or an emergency shock device? The creator who issues these tools observes performance without emotion. Progress means meeting quotas.

Failure has consequences. When cargo is destroyed or lost, missions end abruptly. The AI overseer offers no second chances without cost. Some players might risk everything to retrieve a dropped object, while others may choose to abandon it to ensure survival. These decisions shift the dynamic of each match. There’s no guarantee that teammates will agree on what’s worth saving. This tension adds another layer, as players must weigh personal survival against shared success.
